When exploring the ocean just below California’s offshore platforms, few expect to find breathtaking beauty and thriving marine life. But some have likened these structures to an oasis in a marine desert. In fact, large numbers of rockfish -including the threatened boccacio -and millions of invertebrates call the platforms home.

Research is being conducted now on the overall benefits these reefs have on the coastal ecosystem. But some things are known for certain. There is teeming sea life below the offshore platforms.

We encourage you to become aware of the potential value these structures provide. Through awareness and educational outreach efforts, support for their preservation and enhancement will prove beneficial to the marine environment.
